The Weight of a Mistake

Liza’s POV

An hour had passed. I sat motionless on the edge of my bed; eyes fixed on the book lying in front of me like it was a loaded weapon. It hadn't moved. It hadn't glowed or pulsed or done anything overtly magical. But its stillness was louder than thunder. The air around it felt heavier, charged with a kind of energy I couldn't explain. A faint tremble lingered in my fingers, slowly ebbing away with every breath, my heart rate finally returning to something resembling normal.
